Omaha man to appear in court after allegedly attacking grandmother
An Omaha man who police say called 911 to report he attacked his own grandmother with a knife last Thursday is expected in court Monday.
Nyak Nyak, 24, was booked into Douglas County Corrections for 1st-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

The incident happened at an apartment near 30th and Spencer streets. Police said Nyak told dispatchers he had smoked marijuana and taken other drugs, and couldn't remember his name.
Officers found his grandmother on the floor, unconscious and covered in blood, with a broken knife in the bedroom.
Investigators said it appeared Nyak had attempted to cut her throat. She was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
Ralston Kwik Shop homicide suspect arrested in Council Bluffs
The man wanted in connection to a fatal shooting in Ralston was arrested in Iowa.
According to a release, area police assisted U.S. Marshals in the arrest of 45-year-old George Hatfield. He was found at an apartment near Mynster and North 7th streets in Council Bluffs.

Hatfield was ordered out by the Marshals and arrested without incident. He was booked at the Pottawattamie County Corrections Center on a charge of Fugitive from Justice, pending extradition to Nebraska.
Ralston Police said 29-year-old Shane Krantz was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the Kwik Shop parking lot at 72nd and Q streets last Thursday. He was taken to the hospital with life-saving measures underway, but died there.
Omaha man dies in accidental drowning at lake in Fremont
A man is dead after what investigators are calling an accidental drowning at a lake in Fremont.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at Victory Lake in the Fremont State Recreation Area just before 8 p.m. Friday.
After searching the water, the Fremont Fire Department dive team found 32-year-old Abraham Gonzalez Gonzalez of Omaha. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.
National Sheriffs' Association conference begins Monday in Omaha
The National Sheriffs' Association's annual conference will start Monday in Omaha.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin is expected to speak at the conference.
Thousands of law enforcement officers from across the nation are set to arrive for the tradeshow. It features seminars, workshops and technology displays.
The conference starts at 3 p.m. at the CHI Health Center.
Last week for free spring yard waste collection in Omaha
This week is the last week of the spring free yard waste collection in Omaha.
Starting next week, residents will need to purchase stickers to place on yard waste bags to have them collected.
The bags are taken to the Oma-Gro facility to get composted. Community members can bring yard waste to the facility at no cost, from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. weekdays at 6606 S 60th Street.
Free collection in Omaha this year is scheduled from May 4-June 12 for the spring season, and Oct. 26-Dec 4 for the fall season.
“Your black lid garbage cart may also be used for yardwaste, however it will not be composted. Year around yardwaste may go loose in the black lid cart at no cost,†an article online reads.
Spring Lake pool in Omaha opening for summer season Monday
Another Omaha public pool is scheduled to open for the season Monday.
Spring Lake pool opens at 1 p.m. after maintenance issues delayed its start. It will be open daily from 1 to 5 p.m.
Camelot pool will stay closed this year, also due to maintenance problems.
All other Omaha pools are open for summer fun. A majority of them kicked off the season last Monday.
