Iowa man dies in crash that closed portion of Interstate 29

A man died in a crash that closed a portion of Interstate 29 in Council Bluffs Monday afternoon.

According to Council Bluffs Police, northbound I-29 was closed at 25th Street for an injury accident at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

A report from the Iowa State Patrol shows that investigators found a 2020 Ram 1500 was stationary when the driver of a semi slammed into it.

ISP says the driver of the pickup, identified as 60-year-old Donald Marks, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died at the scene.

One taken to hospital after South Omaha cutting

One person is injured after a cutting in South Omaha on Monday evening.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Omaha police officers rushed to the scene near 33rd and J streets.

The victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to police dispatch.

One hospitalized after crash on I-480 in Omaha

A crash between a motorcycle and a car affected traffic on Interstate 480 in Omaha Monday evening.

Omaha Police tell First Alert 6 a crash happened on northbound I-480 just north of Martha Street.

OPD says one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Officers were diverting traffic onto the Martha St. exit, and blocking access to I-480 from the Martha on-ramp. Nebraska 511 reports the crash cleared out shortly after 7 p.m.

Omaha officer recovering after driver crashes into cruiser on I-80

An Omaha police officer is recovering after a drunk driver rear-ended his cruiser on Interstate 80 on Saturday night.

Officer Jason Stinson had blocked a lane on I-80 near 13th Street for a pothole when a vehicle struck his cruiser from behind at at least 65 miles per hour, investigators said. Stinson's police lights were activated and visible.

Stinson, an eight-year veteran who typically trains other officers, sustained five broken ribs. He was wearing his seatbelt. He was released from the hospital and will remain on light duty while he recovers.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He will face booking upon his release.

Boyd Park Complex dedication set for Tuesday in Omaha

A dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Boyd Park Complex in Omaha is scheduled for Tuesday.

The ceremony is set to begin at 5 p.m. at the complex, located just south of 16th and Ames.

“Upgrades include all weather synthetic turf for year round play, a brand new training complex, and improved parking and lighting,†a social media post from the Omaha Parks Foundation states.

It will be followed by the opening game of the 2026 American Legion baseball season. Central High School softball and baseball will also be playing at facilities there.

2 kids from Iowa, 1 from Omaha to compete in Scripps spelling bee

The Scripps National Spelling Bee begins Tuesday in Washington, D.C., with three contestants from the region.

Two contestants are from Iowa and one is from Omaha. Sarah Fernandes, the Omaha contestant, previously competed in 2023 and 2024.

Tuesday's preliminary rounds can be watched on Scripps Sports and spellingbee.com from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The three-day competition concludes Thursday night, according to the Associated Press. AP also reports that this is the 98th bee.
