LONDON MARATHON: Sabastian Sawe Makes History by Breaking 2-Hour Barrier
Sawe, a Kenyan, broke the men’s world record at the London Marathon, finishing in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 30 seconds.
Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia and Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda also achieved impressive times in the race.
Sawe, 29, expressed gratitude to the cheering crowds in London for their support.
“This victory is not just for me, but for all of us today in London,” Sawe remarked.
The marathon witnessed an exciting finish as Sawe surged ahead in the final two kilometers to claim victory.
Ethiopia’s Tigst Assefa set a new women’s race record, but fell short of the overall course record.
The wheelchair races saw Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner clinch victories in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
