South: Bringing culture to the heart of hospitals

In hospitals, EHPADs or medico-social structures, daily life is not limited to care. For several years, initiatives have been developing to bring culture closer to patients and professionals. In the South region, this dynamic is part of a structured framework, with one objective: to make artistic creation accessible to all, including in places where we cannot always go to culture.

A dynamic relaunched and anchored in the territories

Jointly supported by several public partners, the “Culture and Health” system aims to integrate artistic projects directly into healthcare establishments. Contemporary creation, artist residencies, co-constructed projects: so many initiatives designed over the long term, in conjunction with the teams and the public.

Recently relaunched, the program is experiencing new impetus after an evaluation phase. The 2025 and 2026 calls for projects confirmed its attractiveness, with 43 projects supported in 2025 and 39 in 2026, distributed across all departments.

In total, more than 10,000 people – patients, residents, families and professionals – are affected by these actions, which are part of the very functioning of the establishments and promote lasting cooperation with cultural stakeholders.

A lever to bring culture and vulnerable audiences together

In a region where the cultural offering is rich, this system responds to a dual challenge: facilitating access to culture for the most distant audiences and better irrigating the territories.

By intervening directly in places of care, the projects make it possible to bring artistic creation where it is rarely accessible, while helping to include culture in life and support pathways. They thus help to strengthen the links between cultural and health actors, for the benefit of the people welcomed as well as the teams.
