Two days before the summer festival, a free screening of the documentary “Eleveurs d’horizons” by Thomas Berzosa was offered at the Salle de l’Eveil du cinema, as part of the international year of pastoralism.
The public came in large numbers to discover this sensitive and committed film which highlights women and men who have chosen to reconnect with traditional pastoralism, adapted to the challenges of the modern world. Through majestic landscapes and preserved territories, the documentary also takes viewers to the heart of seven regional natural parks of the Massif Central.
The film offers an in-depth vision of agro-pastoralism through the emblematic figure of André Valadier, a now retired breeder. From his small traditional stone house nestled in the Aubrac, he sincerely shares his commitments and retraces his lifelong fight to defend his territory, his landscapes and environmentally friendly agriculture.
Throughout the testimonies, the documentary recalls how this method of farming is based on a circular system that is economically viable, sustainable and deeply linked to the local ecosystem. An approach which today finds a particular resonance in the face of current environmental and agricultural issues.
At the end of the screening, a debate allowed the public to interact with André Valadier. Also present were Jean-Marc Roziéres, mayor of the town, Angeline Marcilhac, co-president of the Aubrac breeders’ association in the Olt region, as well as a representative of the Aubrac Regional Natural Park.
The numerous discussions demonstrated the public’s interest in issues linked to pastoralism, the transmission of know-how and the future of rural territories. An evening rich in reflections and sharing, perfectly in the spirit of the summer festival and the values it intends to promote.
