This weekend, Aubagne is celebrating South Korea. This Saturday, June 6, around fifty enthusiasts from the Land of Clear and Fresh Mornings gathered at the Agora for the Chingu Wave Festival, celebrating the 140th anniversary of the treaty of friendship between France and South Korea.

Before I dreamed of a trip to the United States, now I dream of a trip to Korea“, explains Sarah. For her, pop culture was the gateway to the discovery of Korean culture in the broad sense. It was through K-dramas that she began to be interested in the cuisine and landscapes of South Korea. “I can’t watch anything but K-dramas anymore“, she adds.

Pop and traditional culture

The festival brings together around twenty K-pop and K-drama stands, but also more traditional culture, such as the calligraphy stand where visitors can buy a calligraphy of their name in Korean.

Aurore came with her daughter Léonore, both passionate about Korean culture: “My daughter is more into pop culture, and I’m into traditional culture, cooking,” she explains. Usually this kind of festival is in Paris, it’s good to have one in the region.” The festival also includes conferences and stage shows.

Energetic dances and distinguished guest

K-pop dance group Sunder Crew set the main stage on fire with energetic solo, duo and group dances. They covered popular choreographies such as Like Jennie by Jennie from the group Blackpink or Knife du boys band Enhypen.

The Sunder Crew also organized a random play dancea game well known to K-pop fans where everyone gets together on the dance floor to recreate the choreographies of their favorite groups while the songs follow each other randomly.

Finally, the Chingu Wave Festival has planned a distinguished guest: Peakboy, author, composer, performer and DJ who has already collaborated with V from BTS.
