“While our neighbors make culture shine, Andrésy turns off the lights.” The outgoing mayor of Andrésy criticizes the cultural policy of the new municipality.

Lionnel Wastl, former environmentalist mayor of Andrésy, was beaten in the municipal elections in March by Jean-Pierre Dos Santos (without label). Since then, he has strongly questioned the cultural policy of his successor.

It was via his Facebook account that Lionnel Wastl decried the implementation of an “anti-ecological” cultural program. Last week, he expressed strong criticism of the “retreat” of culture in Andrésy. As we can read in one of his publications on Facebook, he claims that “Andrésy turns out the light” on culture.

A new municipality that reduces the place of culture?
Lionnel Wastl provides examples in his publications. He compares Andrésy to neighboring towns, particularly from a theater point of view. While the representation calendars for 2026-2027 are filling up or are already official, the mayor of Andrésy has “unraveled the 2026-2027 program”, according to Lionnel Wastl. This was a priori complete and formalized. The new mayor and his team have also decided to postpone the presentation evening for the new season. It was to take place on May 19, it must now take place in September. This change of program is denounced because it could encourage Andrésiens to go and take places for performances already organized in other municipalities.

A broader critique
Lionnel Wastl also addresses the subject of artists who bring culture to life in Andrésy. The Pipa Sol and CYAM companies were expelled from the Chalet de Denouval, the place where they used to live. Finally, the Julien Green theater performance space in Andrésy should be renamed in the coming weeks, as announced by the town hall. The editorial team tried several times to contact the mayor. Without success.
