At 52 years old, a former player of the French national team is preparing to start a new adventure and become a coach.

The story between Vikash Dhorasoo and football is far from over. In fact, after notable stints at Le Havre AC, Olympique Lyonnais, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, the former attacking midfielder is getting ready to become a coach.

At 52 years old, the former French international (18 caps, 1 goal) confirmed this in an interview with the newspaper L’Équipe. “I feel ready to lead a high-level team, manage a staff, and embark on a human adventure,” he explained. “By ending my career, I didn’t feel capable of transitioning from the somewhat selfish player to the altruistic coach that is required. But that has changed recently.”

Indeed, the poker player turned politician did not necessarily anticipate a coaching career. “It was not something planned at all, but talking about football regularly, analyzing, commenting, giving my opinion on everything without all the information at times, pushed me to think that I should go for it, take the plunge,” he said.

After a trip to India over four years ago, Vikash Dhorasoo enrolled to obtain the necessary coaching certifications. Now an assistant coach at Paris 13 Atletico, currently tenth in the National league, after earning the Diploma of State Superior (DES) with the French Football Federation, he aims to eventually coach a major team.

“Whether in Ligue 1, Ligue 2, or a National league team with a big project and high rankings, it’s the high level that interests me and where I believe I can contribute something,” he emphasized, while also mentioning that he is “open to anything.” “I want to build my career here first. Then, there are definitely countries that attract me: India, Réunion, my wife is Swedish, more broadly South America… you have to dream.”
