Donald Trump is once again threatening the Strait of Hormuz. The President of the United States affirmed, this Saturday, June 20, on his Truth Social platform, that his country could impose a toll in the Strait if negotiations with Iran were to fail at the end of the 60 days of ceasefire currently planned.

“There will be NO TOLLS in the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day ceasefire period, and there will be NO tolls after the expiration of the 60-day period, unless imposed by the United States of America, if an agreement was not found, for services rendered as a guardian angel of the countries of the Middle East and for purposes of reimbursement of past, present, and future costs,” wrote the American president.

Closure of the strait

Before this declaration by the American president, Iran had announced this Saturday, June 20, to once again “close” the strategic Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for the deadly Israeli attacks in Lebanon, without breaking off discussions with a view to a definitive agreement on the end of the conflict in the Middle East which are due to begin in Switzerland on Sunday.
