“These fractures are not accidents of History.” In a forum, Saturday June 13, organizations fighting for solidarity and against climate change call on Emmanuel Macron to “really tackle global macroeconomic imbalances” and the debt of the countries of the South, “built and powered” by the countries participating in the G7, from Monday in Evian. “Reducing the imbalances in the world economy requires taking responsibility for their origins”, write in this text published by The Tribune Action Against Hunger, Oxfam, Alternatiba, Amnesty International France, CCFD-Terre Solidaire, Alofa Tuvalu, Emmaus International, Climate Action Network and 350. “These fractures (…) were built and fueled, and still are, by logics of exploitation and dependence that the G7 countries have built into systems, and which they perpetuate.”

The G7 summit brings together the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France, as well as the European Union. The leaders of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar were also involved in this edition, as well as the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky. Emmanuel Macron also invited the leaders of Brazil, South Korea, India and Kenya to certain sessions, to avoid this forum of industrialized powers being perceived as too antagonistic to emerging countries. The French president intends, according to the Elysée, to tackle global economic imbalances.

“Emmanuel Macron preferred to secure Donald Trump’s participation in the G7 in Evian, even if it meant erasing climate and gender issues from the summit agenda to spare the American president”nevertheless accuse the signatories of the platform. They ask the French president to confront these great powers with several imbalances: “the debt which is asphyxiating the countries of the South”, “the extreme concentration of wealth”, the “obsolete international tax system”, “the indecent super-profits made on the back of crises” and “the weakening of international solidarity”.
