The South Aveyronnaise, originally from Montlaur, in the region of Camarès, aged 34, living in Toulouse, is self-employed.

Laura Chery climbed the steps of the Cannes Film Festival… Not during the 79e edition which ended yesterday, but it’s already been a few years. She was certainly not starring in a film in competition, but was present on the Croisette to enjoy a gift from her company, a reward for her good results.

Cambodia, United States, Australia…

A “dynamic executive” at Randstad, she was based in Toulouse where, as a recruitment consultant for the consultancy part of this (re)known temporary agency, she spanned four departments, at the head of a team of fifteen employees. This adventure lasted eight years but it could have continued much longer…

When she turned thirty, she then chose a sabbatical year, with a human mission in Cambodia: “I wasn’t ambitious… If I could just change one person’s life!“. On her return from Asia, she did not return to her post, preferring to travel the globe, alone, with her backpack.

She spent twelve months in California and as many in Australia: “I spoke Spanish and Occitan, I had basic Japanese and I wanted to work on my English“. She is inexhaustible on the subject: “I have always had ‘an international profile’, the fiber and the desire to look elsewhere. With, in particular, a sensitivity to culture in general“.

She thus tasted gastronomy, being adopted into a restaurant, where she, in turn, took on the role of cook, chef, manager, while creating the image of the establishment.
After this long interlude, she found “well fade“The position of project manager for a former client in France, even if her roadmap took her from Brazil to Korea. But behind her computer screen! “It’s true that I was bored“, glisse l’intéressée.

“It’s like a second skin”

So, she threw herself into the water. “I decided to try my luck as an independent photographer, she emphasizes. So I created Studio Marius, intended for professionals and individuals“. This love story has been going on for a year now and the young business manager is categorical: “I have no regrets. It’s pure happiness“.

For Laura Chery, photography has always been “more than just a passion“ : “It’s like a second skin. I am fascinated by the idea of capturing the present moment, of also offering these moments of life an eternity that time carries away. Create memories, forever“. For the 34-year-old from South Aveyron, “photography has become my language, my way of celebrating, even sublimating, your story, and also highlighting your business“.

If she is capable of fixing a big family celebration for posterity, if she skillfully covers the gap between the Biarritz marathon and a session on the lawn of Ernest-Wallon with the rugby players from Stade Toulouse, she (has) a weakness for catering.

I really appreciate the world of food and I am lucky enough to be approached by wineries, hotels, restaurants… Photography is a tool, thanks to which I can provide advice and visibility“. The young woman is visibly in her element. The one she dreamed of when she was little.

Born on December 9, 1991, in Saint-Affrique, she spent only eight months there, before moving to Montlaur and Rougier de Camarès in her parents’ moving boxes. After a traditional schooling in Saint-Affrique and Millau (where she was already bored), she moved to Albi then Toulouse.

With an atypical course that she completed… valedictorian: BEP, professional baccalaureate, license and master in “human resources and social relations management“.

Carpe diem as a philosophy

If a world map is needed to trace Laura Chery’s personal and professional trajectories, she has never cut ties with Aveyron. Even the beating of her heart, which took her to the Basque Country, did not succeed in taking her away from her native land.

It’s true that my bond is strong, she readily confirms. The country is like a second skin and I want to return regularly. My company is also based in Montlaur!“. She will be there next Sunday for Mother’s Day and she will jump at this opportunity to “offer a presentation on transmission“, around portraits of village residents.

I am very attached to authenticity, to ‘real life’ and, despite nearly two decades spent in Toulouse and various stays abroad, I have kept a sense of Aveyron values, she assures. Work is a pillar with loyalty and the ability to take time to build stone by stone”.

With “carpe diem” as a philosophy: “I dedicate myself to things thoroughly, giving priority to the present moment. I have difficulty looking towards the future. And this way of doing things has some nice surprises in store for me. A few years ago, I would never have imagined going alone on a backpacking trip around the world or spending a day with Antoine Dupont“.

And to conclude, like an original development with the air of a leitmotif: “My common thread is to support life journeys and also to highlight people“.
