From June 24 and until August 20, Nîmes Tourisme and Keolis Languedoc are launching coach excursions to the treasures of the region. An offer that no longer existed since 2010 and which invites visitors and residents alike to leave the car in the garage.
Uzès, the Pont du Gard, Saint-Gilles or even the Camargue: this summer, coach excursions are back on the road departing from Nîmes. Two weekly outings, Wednesdays and Thursdays, will be offered from June 24 to August 20. A small revolution for the Tourist Office.
“This product has existed since the 1930s, but in Nîmes, it was no longer offered since 2010recalls Xavier Labaune, director of Nîmes tourism and Congress. This was a strong request from our visitors: how to organize your week without a car? Or simply enjoy a good time with family, friends, or alone by letting yourself be guided.”
Designed for tourists, arriving by train, or not, but also for Nîmois and grandparents on vacation with their grandchildren, turnkey days include transport, visits and the accompaniment of a trilingual speaker guide in French, English and German.
Two days to explore the region differently
On Wednesday, head for Uzès and its famous market before a stop at Pont du Gard, between cultural discovery with its museum, and swimming.
On Thursday, direction Saint-Gilles and its UNESCO-listed abbey church, then immersion in the Camargue at the Bilhau manade. “We are going to present our bulls, our horses, but above all our Camargue culture”explains one of the representatives of the herd.“We are proud of it. It is an honor to have been chosen to help people discover our heritage and traditions.”
Beyond the tourist aspect, the project also claims a more sustainable ambition. “The idea is to let yourself be carried away and enjoy the day as you see fit. There is no obligation regarding visits”underlines Xavier Labaune. A full coach means fewer vehicles on the roads.
These getaways are intended to be accessible to as many people as possible. Departures are planned from the city center (quay of the little tourist train), Ville active (in front of the Nîmotel) and the La Bastide campsite
It is possible to book up to 48 hours before each departure. The cost of the day is 35 euros for adults, 15 euros for children aged 4 to 12, and a family offer (two adults and two children aged 4 to 12) is offered at a price of 90 euros.
