The United States resumed its strikes against Iran on Wednesday evening after warnings from Donald Trump, with Tehran warning in return that it would target any ship transiting through the Strait of Hormuz.
The American army announced that it had launched “at 5:15 p.m. (Washington time) new strikes in self-defense against several targets in Iran”, according to the Middle East Military Command (Centcom).
“These strikes constitute a response to Iran’s unjustified and persistent aggression,” he added on X.
Explosions were heard on the island of Qeshm, in Minab, Sirik and in the port of Bandar Abbas, Iranian media reported.
The American strikes carried out overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday had already targeted this region of the southern coast of Iran, targeting air defense installations, ground control posts and Iranian surveillance radar sites, according to Centcom.
The Iranian army immediately announced that it would target any ship transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, which is now “completely closed to all types of ships, including oil tankers and merchant ships.”
And the Iranian navy, cited by the country’s media, declared that “two ships which tried to cross illegally” the strait had been “hit”.
Centcom for its part affirmed that Hormuz remained open and that “commercial ships continued to transit” through the strait.
Furthermore, Iranian media claimed that Tehran had attacked the headquarters of the United States 5th Fleet in Bahrain, and that communications antennas as well as radars of the Patriot anti-missile system had been targeted.
And the Revolutionary Guards immediately announced that they had struck the bases of Ali al-Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber, in Kuwait, and the air base of Sheikh Isa, in Bahrain.
“Malicious action”
Senior Iranian officials have asked Donald Trump to stop attacks on Iran, a Fox News journalist said Wednesday who said he spoke with the American president by telephone.
This was immediately denied by a press release from the Revolutionary Guards.
“We were really on the verge of concluding an agreement, but they keep leading us on, they make fun of us,” Donald Trump complained on Wednesday, to journalists in the Oval Office.
Twenty-two countries, including the United States, Australia and several European nations, asked Iran to stop attacks against people “on their territories” in a joint statement.
The text was published by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and states that these countries “condemn the attempted murders and other malicious actions carried out in Europe, North America and Australia” by Iranian state entities.
Iran had claimed responsibility during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday for attacks against American bases in Bahrain and Jordan in response to American strikes themselves triggered by the destruction on Monday of an American helicopter attributed to Tehran.
“100 million barrels”
In Kuwait, the army claimed to be facing “hostile air targets” without specifying their origin. The authorities in Bahrain said they had intercepted several attacks, while the Jordanian army claimed to have destroyed five missiles which targeted the town of Azraq, where an American base is located.

The United States also announced that it had disabled an oil tanker which attempted to violate its blockade of Iranian ports, using a combat plane. The attack left three of the Indian crew of the ship missing, according to New Delhi.
On his Truth Social network, Donald Trump also wrote that the American army had carried out “a secret mission in support of oil tankers and other commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz”, which “made it possible to pass 100 MILLION barrels of oil through the strait”.
Netanyahu’s appeal to the Lebanese
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for his part, called on the Lebanese on Wednesday to join Israel’s fight against Hezbollah, affirming that their country had been “taken hostage” by the pro-Iranian group.

After Israeli strikes on Beirut, first Iran, then Israel, carried out reciprocal attacks on Sunday and Monday, for the first time since the fragile ceasefire between Tehran and Washington came into force on April 8.
Tehran demands that Lebanon, where its ally Hezbollah and Israel have been clashing since March 2, be included in any agreement to end the war in the Middle East, triggered at the end of February by an Israeli-American attack against Iran.
More than 3,600 people have been killed in Lebanon in Israeli strikes since the start of the war.
