Amateur dancers take over the national repertoire in Montpellier

A few days before the official opening of the Montpellier Dance Festival, the National Amateur Dance Meetings are taking place this weekend at the Agora and in the city squares. Enthusiasts from all over France appropriate the emblematic works of the greatest contemporary choreographers.

Dance comes into contact with the public during a weekend on the occasion of the 19th National Amateur Dance and Repertoire Meetings. The principle? During the year, eight groups of amateur dancers prepared an emblematic work from the French choreographic repertoire. In Montpellier, each group performs an extract of approximately fifteen minutes. For Dominique Hervieu, co-director of the Agora, Cité internationale de la danse: “This allows to combine the freshness of these dancers – mainly young people, but also adults – with a sort of history book of dance in movement. It’s a free event that allows the public to immerse themselves in choreographic culture in a light and accessible way.

A festive taste for all audiences

Saturday, at the Théâtre de l’Agora at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., there are works by Dominique Bagouet, Mathilde Monnier, Christian Rizzo and even Pierre Rigal. On Sunday, place Max-Rouquette at 11 a.m., we return to Monnier and Rizzo, but we add Odile Azagury and Alban Richard. At the same time, esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle, the choreographies of Bouvier and Obadia will be associated with Bagouet and Gallotta Moreover, Dominique Hervieu recommends not to miss the latter: “The 99 duos, I believe it will be one of the last times that it will be shown. So we can say that it will be a special moment.” At 6:30 p.m., on this same esplanade, it’s time for the dancers from Montpellier. The other participants will have already left, in Brittany, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and even in Mayotte.
