Bombings and fighting continued in Lebanon on Thursday May 28, despite a ceasefire theoretically in force since April 17. The Israeli army announced that it had struck targets of the pro-Iranian Shiite movement Hezbollah in Tyre, in the south of the country. A day earlier, she had warned that she considered a “combat zone” all the territory located south of the Zahrani, a river flowing about forty kilometers north of the border between Israel and Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported 14 dead, including two children, as well as 21 injured, in the Israeli strikes.

The Israeli army also announced that it had carried out a “targeted strike” in Beirut, without giving further details. AFP images show smoke rising above the town of Choueifat, located on the edge of the southern suburbs of the capital, a Hezbollah stronghold. This is the second time that Israel has targeted a locality located south of the capital since the start of the ceasefire which has never been respected. An Israeli soldier was also killed on Wednesday by a Hezbollah explosive drone, according to the army.
