Missiles fell on kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, on the night of May 23 to 24, 2026. From his apartment, a man films and narrowly escapes a strike. Residents take refuge in basements, parking lots, subways where security is not even guaranteed. “People in the subway started running further inside, deeper, trying to hideconfided a witness. It was unclear whether the fire would spread to the metro station or whether smoke would enter. So it was a really terrifying night.“
600 drones and 90 missiles bombarded kyiv and its region, causing numerous fires. The damage is all the more significant as Moscow claims the use of an Orechnik, a hypersonic nuclear-capable missile, while maintaining that it has exclusively targeted targets linked to the Ukrainian army. Faced with a toll of four dead and around a hundred injured, some residents decided to flee. “I’m really sorry to have to say goodbye to kyiv. I can’t stay there anymore. It’s impossible. I lost my job. Everything went up in smoke“, laments a local resident.
In this context of new offensives, the French President reacted. “France condemns this attack and the use of the Orechnik ballistic missile, which above all signify a form of headlong flight and the impasse of Russia’s war of aggression“, declared Emmanuel Macron on his border.
