The cinémathèque française

Last year, the French Cinematheque held a retrospective “The Western, in 25 essential films”. Rochefort sur toile was inspired by this list for its western cycle while allowing itself some liberties: “We wanted to move away from the American western in order to focus on other directors like Sergio Corbucci and “The Great Silence”, in which the French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant plays. “, explains Pascale Sense.

It is also the programmer of the French Cinematheque, Jean-François Rauger, who will present and comment on the film “The Prisoner of the Desert”, by John Ford, on Friday June 5. “We hope that many people will come, it’s a chance to see him in Rochefort!†she exclaims.

Bringing independent cinema to life

For twenty years, the Rochefort sur toile association has promoted art house films. Partner of the Apollo 8 cinema, the association offers monthly lists of films to see, organizes film meetings and regular cycles. “The latest ones focused on Spanish directors and then on the director David Lynch,” recalls Pascale Sense.

But for this new cycle, the association and Apollo 8 were interested in a theme rather than an actor or a director. The idea is to respond to a difficulty facing cinemas. “We are having trouble getting young people hooked on arthouse cinema. Thanks to this theme, we hope to motivate them to come to the theater. »
