Ahead of the baccalaureate grand oral exam which is fast approaching, the Terminale students in the History-Geography-Political Science specialty will volunteer to present their work during two afternoons of conferences open to the public.
It’s a tradition that’s back in service this year. It’s been six years since Jean-Yves Bou, professor of history-geography and geopolitics at the Jean-Vigo high school, asked his students to host a public conference at the end of the year.
To do this, the Terminale students he supports are inspired by the Grand Oral test which awaits them in the coming weeks, as part of the baccalaureate.
Two conference sessions at the CREA in Millau
This exercise, based on the volunteers of the students, met with some success this year since there will be nearly twenty of them presenting their work, solo or in groups.
“This represents more than half of the students in this specialty”rejoices Jean-Yves Bou who has observed over the years “a growing craze”.
A success which can be explained, among other things, by the fact that the participating students see these conference times as an excellent way to prepare for the test that awaits them. Without giving in to the pressure of presenting yourself to the public.
“I think it’s a good exercise., testifies Lilou a few days before the event. And confronting ourselves with difficulty will also bring us things.”
A wide variety of topics
It is through two afternoons open to all that the students will present their work.
If a first cycle awaited the high school students this Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m., at the conference room of the MJC in Millau, the next meeting is set for Thursday, May 28, at the same place, at 3:30 p.m.
And the least we can say is that the public is not likely to get bored as the subjects chosen by the students are so fascinating (see boxes below).
Milan, Cyprien and Ugo will thus discuss the subject of sport as a vector of collective memory. A subject which brings together the three handball players, and linked to the projects of Cyprien who wishes to move into Staps and Ugo who aims to become a sports journalist.
Dylan, for his part, will present his work on the evolution of forest fires in France and the means implemented to deal with them. Very topical work, for which the young man took advantage of his training as a young firefighter as he will soon join the volunteer firefighters.
Without forgetting Lilou, who wishes to present work on “a forgotten memory and genocide” by focusing on the genocide in Namibia in the memory of this former German colony.
Or Hannah who will discuss the dismantling of USAID (United States Agency for International Development) by the Trump administration.
The topics presented this Thursday, May 28
– Lilou: The memory of the genocide in Namibia
– Nino: The exploitation of lithium and cobalt
– Orélio: The consequences of the conflict in Ukraine on the War
– Anna: The memories of Soviet crimes in the Baltic countries
– Maïa : The genocide of the Yazidis in Iraq
