Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has revealed his list for the 2026 World Cup, a major surprise: no Real Madrid player is among the selected players. With a young and ambitious team, La Roja hopes to shine again on the world stage, despite notable absences.
Coach Luis de la Fuente unveiled this Monday a highly anticipated list for the next World Cup, confirming the high ambitions of Spain, the reigning European champion.
Unsurprisingly, the Roja executives appear well in the selected group. The young prodigy Lamine Yamal, already considered one of the faces of the future of world football, will be there for his first World Cup. He will be accompanied by several talents from FC Barcelona, including Pedri, Gavi and Pau CubarsÃ.
The midfield remains structured around solid benchmarks including Rodri, centerpiece of Manchester City, and Fabián Ruiz, who continues his central role in midfield.
The list also highlights a renewed defense, which notably includes Aymeric Laporte and several young players like Pau Cubarsà or Eric GarcÃa. The corridors will be animated by dynamic profiles such as Pedro Porro or Marc Cucurella.
In attack, La Roja is clearly banking on youth and speed with Nico Williams, Ferran Torres and especially Lamine Yamal, a true symbol of this new Spanish generation. Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal complete a rich offensive sector but still under construction.
This list, however, did not fail to surprise with certain absences, in particular that of Real Madrid players, not selected by the coach, as well as that of several experienced profiles who were nevertheless closely followed.
Reigning European champion, Spain once again presents itself as one of the favorites of the competition, in the same way as France or England. But his tough group, including an expected clash against Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay, will test La Roja’s ambitions from the outset.
