For Jassà Zik 2026, two unique concerts will bring together Boston and French musicians for total improvisation.
Spring has barely set in when the Jassà Zik 2026 at Mas Razal dawns on the causses, which welcomes the French tour of the quartet Eric Zinman (piano) & Vance Provey (trumpet), emblematic figures of Bostonian free-jazz, joined by the French Roland Devocelle (saxophone) and Urbuli Baba (drums).
Two unique dates are planned. Sunday May 24 at 6 p.m. at Jassà Zik (Mas Razal, Larzac) and Monday May 25 at 8 p.m. at the Théâtre du Moulin Dufeu in Saint-Affrique.
Transatlantic meeting around freedom
Four musicians, two continents, a single quest for pure improvisation, without score or compromise. Specially from Boston, Vance Provey and Eric Zinman will reunite with Roland Devocelle and Urbuli Baba for a sonic alchemy where each note is born in the moment. “The music will be made without a career plan for the sounds, or prior authorization”, promise the artists.
A tribute to the spirit of free jazz, where freedom is not a concept, but a living practice. For Scott Walton, American friend of Millau and guest star of this adventure, this tour is an opportunity toe “circle like fireflies around this little common light” – that of musical creation without borders. Quite a program.
