President Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran, demanding the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. Failure to comply will result in the US targeting and “destroying” Iranian power plants, starting with the largest one.

In response, Iran has threatened to target energy, information technology, and water desalination infrastructures in the region if the US carries out its threat.

The conflict, sparked by a joint offensive from the US and Israel against Iran, has entered its 23rd day. Attacks continue in the Middle East, with Israel carrying out strikes in Tehran and Jerusalem following Iranian missile alerts.

The situation worsened when Iran targeted residential areas in Dimona and the city of Arad, causing numerous casualties and significant damage. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, vowed to continue striking their enemies on all fronts.

The conflict has shifted towards nuclear facilities, with Iran targeting Dimona in response to an alleged attack on one of its nuclear complexes in Natanz.

As tensions escalate, missiles have been launched towards Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, and the UAE reported responding to Iranian missile and drone attacks. The blockage of the strategic Strait of Hormuz is causing concerns over global oil and gas prices.

Several countries have expressed readiness to contribute to efforts to reopen the strait. The European Commission has urged member states to reduce gas filling objectives for next winter to alleviate price pressures.
