This Wednesday, May 20, the Young Citizens Space of the Pierresvives departmental domain, in Montpellier, welcomes the 4e édition of the Defense and Security Professions Forum. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., young people, from 16 years old, can meet professionals from the army, the national police, the gendarmerie and Sdis 34 to discover the diversity of professions and the possible routes.

Organized each year around a different sector of activity, the forum aims to raise awareness professions sometimes poorly identified by young people. The goal: to enable them to project themselves concretely into these professions, by exchanging directly with the professionals present.

The event brings together the three armies, the police, the gendarmerie, the firefighters, as well as specialized training centers. Everyone comes to present their missions and their opportunities, in domains très variés ranging from the field to logistics, including telecommunications and intelligence.

According to Jamila Baron, project manager at Info Jeunes Occitanie, the interest of the forum also lies in the contact directly with young people, who can ask their questions, discuss freely and sometimes even handle equipment used by professionals.

A forum for everyone

College students, students and job seekers can come and find out about the professions but also about the training that prepares them for them, which justifies, according to the organizers, the importance of early information. In addition, defense and security professions continue to recruit at different levels of qualification and very varied fields, in all corps concernés.

For organizers, these professions are still attractive, but still require an information effort to be better understood by young audiences. The objective of the forum is therefore to create a lien direct between institutions and young people in order to generate vocations and accompany the choice of orientation.
