Daughter of singer Michel Fugain, Marie grew up in a family very exposed to the media. But it was above all the tragedy experienced in 2002 which marked his life forever. Laurette Fugain, her big sister, died of leukemia at the age of 22, after a bone marrow transplant which unfortunately did not work. Since then, Marie has spoken regularly about this immense void left by her sister. In several interviews given in recent years, she explained how much this disappearance had upset her balance. “I really lost a piece of me”, she confided in particular, evoking this almost close relationship that they had had since childhood. Over time, the actress says she tried to make sense of this tragedy. “I understood why she left” she told again on Europe 1 in 2023, while recognizing that the lack never really disappears.
Marie Fugain pays tribute to her sister
This Monday, May 18, 2026, twenty-four years to the day after Laurette’s disappearance, Marie Fugain shared a particularly moving tribute on Instagram. On an old photo of the two sisters, she wrote: “Hey sis’, it’s Marinouche, I just wanted to give you a kiss and wish you a ‘happy flying birthday’, 24 years old! It’s been so long”. Faithful to her tender and humorous tone, she then continues as if she were speaking directly to Laurette: “Call me back as soon as you have my message, I won’t move all day. And don’t worry, I have some juicy things to tell you!” Before adding an even more painful thought about Edith, a loved one who recently passed away: “By the way, you are going to receive a visit from Edith, I gave her your address, she is new to the region. Take good care of her. Love you baby love”. A publication which greatly affected its subscribers, many of whom sent it messages of support.
Michel Fugain spoke of the death of his daughter
For his part, Michel Fugain also continues to talk about his daughter with great emotion. Guest on RTL in the show We’re doing TV again on November 9, 2024, the singer had great difficulty holding back his tears when he was questioned about Laurette. “Ah, I’m sick…” he whispered before continuing, very moved. Since the disappearance of her daughter, the artist explains that she has chosen to live intensely to symbolically continue to bring to life the one who simply dreamed of enjoying life. “She only wanted to live.”he declared, his voice tight. A few years earlier, he said he went back on stage less than a week after Laurette’s death to sing in front of the public, despite immense pain. “It requires forgetting yourself”he explained then. Among the Fugains, the wound seems impossible to completely heal. But through tributes, memories and speeches, Laurette continues to exist more than ever in the hearts of her people.
