Until the end of the night, a suffocating suspense. But an indisputable victory against the Israeli candidate. The press room is delighted and Bulgarian singer Dara can’t believe it. His crazy hit, “Bangaranga”, thrilled the entire audience in Vienna (Austria). “It’s incredible, it’s the first time that Bulgaria has won the Eurovision song contest”underlines the big winner.
Dara had serious candidates facing her. The Finns, ultra favorites of the competition, in an incandescent setting. But also the Australian superstar Delta, all in control.
The pop-opera performance for France of young Monroe, 17, also succeeded in seducing the jury. She won fourth place after the professional vote, but finished eleventh after the public vote. “We gave everything. We gave our hearts on that stage, so I’m very happy with what we shared”she says. “The picture was dazzling. Moreover, all the jurors underlined it. We are one of the countries with the most points. (…) Afterwards, does the general European public like it? That’s another question”underlines Stéphane Bern, France Télévisions commentator at Eurovision.
But Monroe’s fans, who traveled to Vienna, hoped to have it go higher. “Obviously, a little disappointed. But it will pass, it will be fine”indicates Agathe Soul; “I think it’s a bit of a low result for France, but we’ll do better next year. But Monroe was great”believes Nadiia Yavorovenko. The French supporters have promised, they will go to Sofia (Bulgaria) next year. In 2027, just 50 years after Marie Myriam’s victory. They hope that France will once again fly to the top of the rankings.
