As part of the Vietnamese Culture Week in Laos 2026, the artistic show entitled “Hương sắc Việt” presented on May 15 in Kaysone Phomvihane by the Vietnam National Puppet Theater aroused great enthusiasm among the Lao public, illustrating once again the depth of friendship between the Vietnamese and Lao people.
Much more than a simple artistic representation, this show offered a journey through the history and traditions of Vietnam. It opened with “The Legend of the Dragon and the Fairy”, inspired by the founding myth of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, symbol of Vietnamese origins and national unity.
The program captivated the audience with the harmonious combination of water puppets, traditional puppets and folk music.
According to Lamkhun Volavong, director of the Culture and Sports Department of Savannakhet province, this was the first water puppet performance ever organized in Savannakhet. The enthusiastic reception from the public testifies, according to him, to a real interest of the inhabitants in cultural exchanges. He expressed the wish to see more Vietnamese troops deployed in the province, including in remote areas, to further strengthen ties between the two peoples.
The Vietnamese Culture Week in Laos 2026, organized from May 12 to 16, was part of the bilateral cooperation agreements and the Vietnam–Laos cultural and tourism cooperation program for the period 2026-2030.
The success of the representations in Vientiane and Savannakhet once again confirms that culture remains the most lasting and direct means of bringing people together. -VNA/VI
