Large Ukrainian drone attack in Russia
Russia claimed on Sunday, May 17, to have suffered one of the most massive Ukrainian attacks since the start of the conflict by around 600 drones, causing four deaths on its territory. An assumed reprisal operation, three days after the deadly Russian bombings which left around twenty dead in kyiv, and to which the Ukrainian authorities had promised to respond.
“Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified.”wrote Volodymyr Zelensky on social networks.
Moscow has intensified its air attacks on Ukraine
Ukrainian forces claim to have shot down 279 Russian attack drones and decoys out of a total of 287 devices launched by Moscow. The past week has been very intense: Russia has launched more than 3,000 drones and dozens of missiles against Ukraine.
Russia thus responded to the most massive drone attack that Russia has suffered in four years. Moscow says it intercepted 556 drones overnight. In Moscow itself, more than 80 drones were intercepted and a strike left 12 injured.
The conflict remains very active on the ground
More than 200 land clashes were recorded in 24 hours on different front lines.
Massive bombardments (artillery, rockets, drones) on military positions as well as in inhabited areas. The Ukrainian command revealed that Russian forces are employing new infiltration tactics in the South, including the use of disused gas pipelines allowing its soldiers to pass through Ukrainian defense lines.
