Israel announced Friday that it had launched an airstrike in Gaza targeting Izz al-Din al-Haddadwhom he described as the leader of the military wing of the Palestinian movement Hamas.

“Under the instructions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz, the IDF carried out an airstrike in Gaza targeting dangerous terrorist Izzedine al-Haddad, commander of Hamas’ military wing and one of the main architects of the October 7 massacre,” a déclaré le ministère israelien de la Défense.

“Al-Haddad is responsible for the assassination, kidnapping and harm of thousands of Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers,” precise the post.

“He held our hostages in brutal captivity, orchestrated terrorist attacks against our forces and refused to implement the agreement proposed by US President Donald Trump to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the Gaza Strip,” he declared on social networks.

Hamas has not yet issued a statement regarding the fate of Izz Al-Din Al-Haddad. He is the most senior Hamas official to have been targeted since the ceasefire agreement concluded under the aegis of the United States last October.

Izz Al-Din Al-Haddad became the military leader of the armed group in the Gaza Strip after the assassination by Israel of Commander Mohammad Sinouar in May 2025.
