The kick-off for the final Ligue 2 play-off between Rodez Aveyron Football and AS Saint-Etienne was given on Friday, May 15 at 8:30 pm at Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, home of the Stéphanois who finished third in the regular season, behind Le Mans and Troyes in the race for promotion. Meanwhile, the Aveyronnais were eliminated on Tuesday by Red Star (2-3) in the first play-off between the fourth and fifth.
After a goalless match (0-0) on Friday night, the penalty shootout became endless with 10 shooters on each side! Eventually, the Ruthénois were defeated (7-6) despite three saves from Quentin Braat, the Aveyron goalkeeper.
Saint-Etienne will face the 16th Ligue 1 team next week, playing home and away, in hopes of promotion. The potential opponents are Nice, Le Havre, or Auxerre.
