Nicknamed “Magyar” because of his Hungarian origins, our colleagues from Morgen describe him as “the best-known soldier in Ukraine”. He has transformed drones into an essential tool on the front and explains to the Guardian: “A blitzkrieg is now impossible. If Russia had a million tanks and tried to capture kyiv again, it would lead to the greatest massacre in history. Two million drones invade the tanks and burn them mercilessly.
War in Ukraine: who are the Magyar Birds, who make Russian soldiers tremble?
Création de sa propre unité
It was in the south of Ukraine, in Kherson, that Robert Brovdi launched his first drones and it was also there that he created his own unit, the 414th Brigade: the “Birds of the Magyars”. They use drones not only for reconnaissance, but also for attack. In a few months, the soldiers managed to build their own drones and equip them with ammunition.
In 2023, they began this tactic in Bakhmut and the Ukrainian army managed to resist and cause huge losses on the Russian side. To finance themselves, the “Birds” do not hesitate to share photos of their “exploits” on social networks, calling on Ukrainians to make donations. The businessman uses his marketing skills to serve his unit.
A great lover of art, he decided to integrate it into his daily work by decorating the bunker of his branch within the army with works by Ukrainian artists. Journalists from the BBC and the Guardian visited the premises and noted a surprising contrast between the artistic side of the premises and the screens which project images of drones and record the number of Russian soldiers killed Brovdi runs his team like a business, with a very clear objective, explained to the Guardian: to eliminate as many Russian soldiers as possible, more than the number that the Kremlin army can recruit.
Vladimir Putin’s peace proposal faces a barrage of criticism: “A facade offer”
He claims to the media that he succeeded in “kill or injure around thirty thousand Russians every month”for five months. “We can indeed speak of an extermination plan – and, at present, we exceed this objective”, he adds to the BBC. To be counted, the death of each soldier must be certified by video. He publishes some of them on Telegram, calling drones“birds” and the Russian forces of “vermin to be destroyed”.
L’Ukrainien compare, auprès de The Economist, l’armée russe à “a cash cow”: “We must continue to milk it to the limit, until it is exhausted.”
Increasingly intense long-range strikes
The BBC notes that Ukraine has stepped up its long-range strikes in recent weeks, with oil export facilities being targeted as they have never been before. In an interview with Robert Brovdi, he told the media that these strikes will only intensify: “We are like a provocation to the enemy. Because we are waging war on his territory so that he too can suffer it. At a distance between 1,500 and 2,000 km within the Russian territorythere is no longer a security zone. L'” Ukrainian bird”, freedom-loving, flies there when and where it pleases.” Zelensky a de son côté, qualifié ces frappes à longue portée de “very painful” for Moscow, causing “critical losses.
Front, oil, economy… The situation is not great for Russia which is losing ground in Ukraine
Attacking Russian morale
Robert Brovdi believes that the objective of his unit is not to launch counter-offensives at all costs, but to prevent the enemy from advancing effectively on Ukrainian territory. In this way, he aims to improve the morale of the Russian troops. He explains to the BBC that the high number of Russian victims, added to the large fires could cause a “surprise effect” within the Kremlin. To achieve this, he does not hesitate to make publications to this effect on social networks, notably showing a Russian lady in tears: “I just wanted to live by the sea with my son, but everything is ruined… these drones are flying and destroying everything.”

“NATO must reform its armies”
Robert Brovdi explains to the Guardian that NATO countries trained their generals at the time hi “no one cared about drones.” He therefore believes that it is high time for them to update themselves in order to develop an ecosystem that combines “video images, photographs, contact details” : Russia will not stop. Neither we nor you have time. Poutine is suffering from an incurable illness, that of power and the desire to build a dictatorship. He’s a sick man.”
