OpenAI will start displaying ads to all users of the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the United States in the coming weeks, a company spokesperson said in a statement sent to Reuters.
This decision was first reported by The Information.
OpenAI recently integrated Criteo, an advertising technology company that provides an interface for ad buying and targeting improvements, into its pilot advertising project for the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the United States, Criteo said in a statement earlier this month.
According to The Information, Criteo offered advertisers to commit to spending between $50,000 and $100,000.
OpenAI also informed advertisers that providing more text and visual ad variants can increase ad display frequency and improve performance, The Information added.
According to Reuters, OpenAI is exploring advertising as a new source of revenue, following the increased use of ChatGPT.
The company is looking to diversify its income as it faces rising costs of IT infrastructure and heightened competition in the field of generative AI.
