War in Ukraine: a vast night attack on kyiv leaves one dead and 31 injured

At least ten people were killed and around forty injured in a vast air attack on kyiv, 48 hours after the expiration of a truce with Russia, the authorities announced, the death toll having been revised upwards several times in the day.Â

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko, said Russia had hit the city with “drones and ballistic missiles”. AFP journalists heard several explosions during the night as well as anti-aircraft gunfire. The attack affected six districts of the capital as well as six others in its region, according to military authorities.

Several buildings were affected, according to images taken by AFP journalists and the official report. Operations are underway to search for people possibly “trapped under the rubble of a collapsed high-rise building”according to emergency services. Â Â

More than 650 drones launched last night..

Russia launched more than 650 attack drones and 56 missiles against Ukraine during nighttime attacks this Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky then accused in the morning, adding that a rescue operation was underway in Kiev. “Overnight, the Russians launched more than 670 attack drones and 56 missiles against Ukraine”he wrote on social networks, calling on kyiv’s partners to “don’t stay silent”.

After a three-day truce to commemorate the end of the Second World War, Russia’s daily attacks on Ukrainian cities resumed overnight from Monday to Tuesday. kyiv announced that it was returning blow for blow and the Russian Defense Ministry indicated that it had intercepted 36 Ukrainian drones during the night from Wednesday to Thursday.
