A scene of violence has shaken a football tournament in Pas-de-Calais. On Friday, May 8, at the end of a U10/U11 football tournament, Matthéo, a 9-year-old player from the Auchy-les-Mines club, was attacked by five children from the opposing team in Creil, in the Paris region. Known as “choupi” within his club, the boy endured a series of kicks while on the ground for about fifteen seconds. He was immediately taken care of and transported to the hospital for medical surveillance. Julien Borie, president of AS Auchy, witnessed the incident. “Coaches were shaking hands, children too. And then little Matthéo found himself in the middle of the Creil players. He was pushed down and beaten,” he testifies. Parents who were present at the time were deeply shocked. “We can’t imagine what they felt at that moment,” says the club’s manager.
“At the moment, no complaint has been filed, but emotions are still running high within the sports association. “It hurts to see that it’s 9-year-old kids,” comments a mother of a club child. “Plus, Creil won, we don’t understand why they reacted like that,” adds another parent.
The Auchy-les-Mines club has contacted the Hauts-de-France Football League, responsible for organizing competitions in the region. When contacted by RTL, the League confirmed that an investigation has been opened.
Despite the trauma, Matthéo has already put his football boots back on. The young athlete is expected to participate in a new tournament in the coming weeks.
