The entire Isère basketball dreamt of a La Tronche/Meylan versus Pays Voironnais final in the Women’s League 2 this season. And this scenario almost played out before BC Montbrison spoiled Voiron’s celebration.

Note: BC Montbrison, referred to as BCTM, spoiled Pays Voironnais’ hopes of a final in Women’s League 2.

BCTM handles the job seriously

With a 19-point lead from the first leg (60-79), BCTM had done 95% of the work towards the final. The team led by Clément Sanchez completed the remaining 5% on Saturday night at the Charlaix gymnasium by dominating Feytiat: 48-22 at halftime and 79-57 at the end of the game.

For the second time in four years (defeat in 2022 against Toulouse), BCTM will play a Women’s League 2 final.

PVBC closes the gap before collapsing

For Pays Voironnais, who were trailing by nine points in the Loire a week earlier (65-56), the mission seemed much more challenging. But Quentin Buffard’s team took the bull by the horns in a packed and fervent Henri-Chautard gymnasium: 29-24 (10th), then 48-37 (20th), and 67-52 (30th).

Fact Check: Despite having a 17-point advantage, Marine Mulumba and her teammates were virtually qualified. However, Corinne Benintendi’s team failed to mobilize: coming back to -9 (35th), the Ligériennes finished strongest.

The final score (75-70) gives the victory to Voiron, but the qualification to Montbrison.

Note: The final will start on Saturday, May 16 in Montbrison before heading back to Isère for the return leg in La Tronche/Meylan (Friday, 22) and possibly a decisive match (Sunday, 24) in case of one victory each.
