Russia celebrates its victory over Nazi Germany on Saturday May 9 with a parade on Red Square. Commemorations this year are more modest than usual, against the backdrop of the 3-day ceasefire with Ukraine announced by Donald Trump. A truce which will be accompanied by an exchange of prisoners.

A parade under high tension with fears for the safety of the Russian president. The risk of Ukrainian drones on the parade was high according to the authorities. This is the reason given in any case to explain the dimension of the event, one of the shortest in history. No heavy military equipment for the first time in 20 years, but films broadcast on the big screen.
The ceremony celebrates the victory against Nazism in 1945, but the soldiers engaged in Ukraine are at the center of the parade and at the heart of the speech by Vladimir Putin, who declared: “They face an aggressive force that is armed and supported by the entire NATO bloc. And despite this, our heroes move forward.“
Vladimir Putin contradicts Western observers who claim that Russia is suffering setbacks on the Ukrainian front. The tension, palpable in Moscow for several days, had subsided a little after the announcement, on the evening of May 8, of a three-day ceasefire at the initiative of Donald Trump. The latter was also pleased: “President Putin gave his agreement, President Zelensky too, without making any difficulties. So we have a little period where they won’t kill people, and that’s good.“A relief for Muscovites this morning.”Yes, it’s good, it reassured us a little“, whispers a passerby. “The real good news would be that it stops altogether“, says a man.
The ceremony took place without a hitch but in a deserted capital, without the popular festival which usually marks May 9.
