For the next ceremony, the Golden Globes establish rules in the face of the emergence of AI

The Golden Globes unveiled this Thursday the schedule for their 84th awards ceremony and the eligibility criteria to compete. An entire chapter is devoted to guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence.

New instructions. Faced with the growth of artificial intelligence in the film industry – and in many other sectors globally – the organizers of the next Golden Globes have revealed their eligibility rules regarding artificial intelligence in works.

If its use and that of GenAI (which generates original content) “do not automatically disqualify”, the productions submitted must demonstrate “creative direction, artistic judgment and human authorship”.

“All applications must include a statement specifying any use of generative AI at any stage of production of the completed work, including if changes were made by AI to an artist’s appearance or voice credit,” added the organizers.

As for actors generated by artificial intelligence, their presence will not disqualify a work either, but they cannot be nominated for a prize, the regulations also indicate.

“Performances submitted in the performance categories must come primarily from the work of the credited artist. Applications in which a service is largely generated or created by artificial intelligence are not eligible,” it is written. HAS

Its use should only be limited to supporting the actor’s work “for the purposes of technical or aesthetic improvements (such as rejuvenation, aging or visual modifications)”. Artificial intelligence must therefore not “replace or significantly alter the work of the actor”.

In the fall of 2025, the appearance of Tilly Norwood, an actress entirely created by AI, sparked a global outcry. The Xicoia studio, its designer, did not hesitate to proclaim its desire to make her “the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman”. Enough to awaken fears about the replacement of artists by AI. Many actors like Emily Blunt, the star of The Devil Wears Prada 2, had stepped up to the plate on social networks.
