Lens validated their second place against Nantes with a goal from young Mezian Mesloub on Friday night at Bollaert Stadium (1-0) as Nantes were officially relegated to Ligue 2.
It was a do-or-die match for Nantes, who had a glimmer of hope after Lens had a slow start to the game. However, Lens eventually secured their place in Ligue 1 and condemned Nantes to relegation with Mesloub scoring the winning goal in the 79th minute.
Mesloub, a young player from Lens, made a significant impact by scoring just moments after coming on as a substitute. This victory lifted Lens to 67 points, securing their second-place finish and keeping them out of reach of Lyon in third place.
Nantes, on the other hand, had their chances but failed to capitalize, with Matthis Abline hitting the post in the 75th minute. With this win, Lens looks ahead to the Coupe de France final against Nice on May 22, marking a successful and unexpected season for the club.
