The Cannes Film Festival opens on Tuesday May 12. Two feature films, partly or entirely filmed in Lot-et-Garonne, were selected.
This year, without too much surprise, the Cannes Festival will not relocate to Lot-et-Garonne. On the other hand, the department should visit the Côte d’Azur for a few days. The 79th edition of the famous festival will be held from Tuesday May 12 to Saturday May 23. Two feature films shot in Lot-et-Garonne were selected.
A film shot at Château Saint-Denis
Among them: L’Âge d’ordirected by Bérenger Thouin, filmmaker from Agen. It will be screened at the opening of Cannes Classics – section of the Cannes Film Festival dedicated to the history of cinema and the preservation of world heritage. The film was shot, in part, at the Château Saint-Denis in Sauveterre-Saint-Denis, near Agen, in 2025.

In his work, the Agenese author-director “paints the portrait of a strong and free woman throughout the century”. On the casting side, there are notably Souheila Yacoub, rising star of French-speaking cinema, or Vassili Schneider, who distinguished himself in Le Comte de Monte Cristo in 2024.
Synopsis of The Golden Age
The extraordinary life of Jeanne Lavaur belongs only to herself. She crosses the 20th century and defies her destiny, from her childhood in her parents’ butcher’s shop to her dream of becoming a countess. From one war to another, from Paris in the Roaring Twenties to Brazil, her path crosses History and embraces the world, shared between her two loves, Count Guillaume de Barante and the intrepid Italian revolutionary Céleste.
The other Lot-et-Garonnais feature film is a documentary, entitled Detention. Directed by Guillaume Massart, it was selected by Acid (Independent Cinema Association for its distribution) and will be screened at the end of Cannes Docs. The work highlights students and teachers from the National School of Prison Administration (Enap) in Agen, where the director followed a promotion for two years.
Synopsis of DETENTION
Open a door. Managing a crisis. Write an incident report. At the National School of Prison Administration, hundreds of women and men are learning the profession of prison guard. Over the course of the lessons, on the faces, doubt becomes increasingly rare.
Please note that both films benefited from the support of the Lot-et-Garonne department and the support of the Filming Reception Office (Bat) 47.
