PSG Market: Martinelli and Diomandé in the crosshairs

While PSG prepares for its Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30, Luis Campos is already planning for the summer. And one of his targets is currently playing for the opposing team.

The final has not taken place yet, but PSG’s transfer market is already in motion. According to L’Équipe, the Portuguese sporting director Luis Campos has recently met with the representatives of two highly coveted wingers in Europe: Gabriel Martinelli, 24, from Arsenal, and Yan Diomandé, the 19-year-old Ivorian gem from RB Leipzig. Two different profiles, one common goal: to strengthen PSG’s attacking line before the 2026-2027 season.

An offensive in two acts

The first case seems like a prestige operation. Martinelli, a Brazilian international, fits the ideal profile desired by Luis Enrique: intense pressing, versatility, and the ability to make an impact against top defenses in big games. With a contract at Arsenal until 2027, he finds himself in a delicate contractual situation with the London club, which could open up room for negotiation. The Gunners reportedly would not be against a departure, according to sources close to the player. PSG, who is facing Arsenal in the Champions League final, could try to snatch one of their offensive elements as early as this summer. The irony of the timing.

The second case is the one being closely monitored by all of Europe. Yan Diomandé has been the revelation of the Bundesliga this season: 12 goals and 8 assists in 31 matches with Leipzig, at just 19 years old. Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Arsenal – practically all the top clubs on the continent have his name on their radar. PSG has made its move, but the price tag will be high: Leipzig, who signed him for 20 million euros last summer, is now asking for around 100 million to release their jewel.

A surgical transfer market, not a revolution

This double move is part of a strategy embraced by the Parisian club: adjusting the squad without causing a major upheaval. According to L’Équipe, Campos and Luis Enrique are working with a clear roadmap – one defensive recruit and an additional offensive profile. No grandiose plans, but a surgical precision on identified positions.

The summer also promises to be busy on the departure front. Bradley Barcola, whose contract runs until 2028, has yet to extend and is attracting interest from several clubs. In the background, Ibrahim Mbaye, 18, is catching the eye of Aston Villa. These potential exits would both free up salary space and space on the left flank – the same area where Martinelli and Diomandé would operate.

Playing the financial fair play card

Long constrained by UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, PSG enters this transfer window with a newfound freedom after three years. The club has reduced its wage bill by 55%, paving the way for significant investments without risking any sanctions. An ideal timing to make a strong statement.

Campos is making his moves quietly while his players make noise on the field. The final result of the transfer market: to be continued. The outcome of the final: May 30 in Budapest.
