President Donald Trump criticized on Wednesday the ticket prices for the United States-Paraguay match of the 2026 World Cup in Los Angeles, expressing surprise at prices exceeding $1,000. Faced with tickets reaching $1,940 on the Fifa website, the head of state did not rule out reviewing this pricing.

The American president said he was unaware of the amount when questioned about the prices for the match against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles. Trump stated that he would not pay that amount to attend the game.

The cheapest ticket is $1,940 ($1,650 euros) on the Fifa sales site, and $1,150 ($980 euros) on Fifa’s resale platform. Trump added that he would like to attend but would not pay that amount, being honest, while Fifa President Gianni Infantino defended the pricing as reflective of the North American market. Infantino also noted that 25% of group stage tickets were priced at less than $300.

President Trump also suggested that the government could look into the ticket prices, which have been deemed exorbitant by fans who have lodged complaints against Fifa with the European Commission. He mentioned that he had not seen it but would need to look into it, expressing his disappointment if his supporters in Queens and Brooklyn who voted for him were unable to attend the matches.

Trump acknowledged the huge success of the tournament, breaking records and surpassing past Fifa events. The World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to take place from June 11 to July 19, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches.

Fifa has sold about 5 million tickets out of the 7 million available, with a new “last-minute” sales phase opening on their official website. Additional tickets will continue to be sold regularly until the final on July 19, according to the global organization.

Context: President Trump expressed surprise and reluctance over the high ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup match between the United States and Paraguay, criticizing the steep costs set by Fifa. He also hinted at potential governmental intervention to address the issue.
