On Sunday, the leader of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, officially announced his fourth presidential candidacy. “We needed someone whose tenacity and strength were able to respond to the very complicated situation,” commented Manuel Bompard, the national coordinator of La France insoumise, on May 4th on France Inter.
“This election will be marked by an international context, very tumultuous geopolitics,” observed Manuel Bompard, and “Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy is the result of a collective discussion within the rebellious movement, where we sought to put forward the candidacy that is the most suitable, the most prepared to face this situation,” he explained. “It is Jean-Luc Mélenchon who is fulfilling this objective today,” he assured.
During an intergroup meeting, with parliamentarians, MEPs, and mayors, “I asked whether there was another candidacy within this intergroup,” and “that was not the case,” “there was no opposition to Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy,” stated Manuel Bompard.
The national coordinator of La France insoumise also highlights the “team” that will surround the candidate.
“LFI is the only political party that presents itself as a united, strong group, with a team capable of governing this country,” stated Manuel Bompard.
Asked about Jean-Luc Mélenchon running for the fourth time in the presidential election, Manuel Bompard emphasizes that he has progressed each time and that “the last time, he missed a point” to qualify for the second round. “We fully intend, within La France insoumise, to ensure that this time, not only do we qualify for the second round, but then we win,” emphasized the deputy from Bouches-du-Rhône.
