The science fiction genre is one of the most popular genres among Netflix subscribers. Recently, “War Machine” managed to accumulate 83 million views in just 10 days. But, Alan Ritchson’s film is not the only one to have achieved success in recent weeks. “Nature Prédatoire” (“Trash” in English) has become a phenomenon and ranked number one for several days. However, in order to make room for these new releases, the platform must clear space. Denis Villeneuve’s “Arrival” has already left the catalog on Thursday, April 30. On May 3, four films from the “Transformers” saga, whose 8 installments have accumulated over 13 million admissions in the French box office, will also be leaving.

A science fiction marathon

The first film, titled “Transformers,” was released in 2007 and marked the beginning of a new era for Hollywood blockbusters. With Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox in the cast, it attracted nearly 2 million French viewers to theaters. The film follows Sam Witwicky, an ordinary teenager whose life changes when he becomes entangled in an ancient conflict between two factions of alien robots: the Autobots and the Decepticons. With its groundbreaking special effects for the time and impressive action scenes, this first installment laid the foundation for an essential franchise.

Two years later, “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” further expanded the saga’s mythology and accumulated over 2.30 million admissions in France. As Sam tries to resume a normal life, he discovers that his fate remains intertwined with the Transformers. The appearance of the Fallen, a fallen ancient Prime, raised the stakes, offering an even more ambitious film, with revelations about the origins of this millennia-old war and massive confrontations.

In 2014, “Transformers: Age of Extinction” marked a significant turning point in the franchise with the introduction of a new hero, Cade Yeager, played by Mark Wahlberg. After the devastating events in Chicago, the Transformers are now hunted by humans. However, a new threat from space and technological experiments on Earth reignite the conflict. This fourth film renewed the formula while retaining the spectacular DNA that made the saga successful. The film was viewed by 2.34 million French viewers in cinemas.

Finally, “Transformers: The Last Knight” pushes the franchise’s universe even further by intertwining the Transformers’ story with great human legends. Between ancestral secrets, knights, mythical artifacts, and an unrecognizable Optimus Prime, this fifth installment significantly enriches the series’ mythology and offers an even more ambitious adventure. The film had 1.43 million admissions in French cinemas.

With their unique blend of over-the-top action, accessible science fiction, and titanic battles, these films have left a mark on an entire generation of viewers. Whether to discover them for the first time or revisit them, this past weekend on Netflix is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the most iconic sagas of modern blockbusters.
