Like the big group sprints are no longer an obstacle for him. Already leading the Tour de Romandie after his victory the day before, Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Emirates-XRG) secured another win on Thursday, April 30, during the 2nd stage between Rue and Vucherens. At the end of a challenging stage where the last escapee, Swedish rider Jakob Särdeqvist (Lidl-Trek), was caught just 4.3 kilometers from the finish, a group of around thirty riders fought for the win.
It was the Slovenian rider who emerged victorious, jumping just ahead of the favorite of the day, Dorian Godon (Ineos Grenadiers), who had won the opening prologue. Finn Fisher-Black (Red-Bull Bora-hansgrohe) completed the podium ahead of two French riders, Clément Champoussin (XDS Astana) and Valentin Paret-Peintre (Soudal-Quick-Step).
Prior to this, the two-time world champion controlled the breakaway of four riders, calmly thwarting any attack attempts in the final four kilometers. In the final sprint, Dorian Godon made a strong move but was overtaken by a yellow force right at the end, despite the profile of the sprint favoring the French rider, who is also in great form with already five wins this season.
With this second success in three days at the Tour de Romandie (he finished 6th in the prologue), Tadej Pogacar is already making his mark on a race he is discovering this year. With three mountain stages remaining this Swiss week, the Slovenian could even win all the stages, starting with Friday’s stage featuring the Mollendruz pass (9 km at 6.1%) to climb followed by a long 33 km downhill towards the finish in Orbe.
