In Ukraine and more recently between Israel and Iran, conflicts have shown that armed conflicts have entered a new era: the era of drones. Used as weapons for years, drones have become highly sought-after projectiles in conflicts in just a few years. In troubled times like these, military defense has become a priority for the DGA (Directorate General of Armaments). But far from its offices in the Paris region, an anonymous PME company, ALM Meca, in the heart of Alsace, has found a relevant solution.
With 17 employees, a drone, and an exploit, the small business managed to develop Fury in less than a year. This unique interceptor drone boasts a world-class design. Similar to a small airplane, it is equipped with a jet engine like its larger counterpart. Thanks to this powerful engine and meticulous aerodynamic design, Fury reaches a top speed of 700 kilometers per hour. Even more impressive, it has incredible acceleration and very high aerodynamic resistance (up to 20G). Acknowledged by Thierry Berthier, an associate researcher at the Research Center of the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr, there are no other products like this in Europe.
Developed on its own funds, Fury’s economic model is undoubtedly impressive. Unlike most private companies in the military industry that finance new projects through contracts with the DGA or the Ministry of Defense, Fury was built solely on the company’s own funds. ALM Meca took a significant risk with this venture and will now face the challenge of industrializing its interceptor drone. The Ministry of Defense has already placed an initial order for turbines, keeping a close watch on the company’s activities in the east of France. More orders could follow in the coming months. Below is a demonstration of Fury in flight.
