The conflict in the Middle East is weakening Japan and South Korea, making them increasingly vulnerable to China, says a former military official.

The numerous strikes since the end of February have depleted American reserves, which could serve China’s ambitions.

« From the very beginning, there have been many American strikes. Iran has struck Gulf countries and there have been many interceptors that have been used,» explained former Canadian Armed Forces officer Eric Sauve during an interview on LCN.

These interceptors are crucial for some of the United States’ allies.

« They have been withdrawn from the Indo-Pacific by the Americans. So, it removes the deterrent against China. It removes the confidence of American allies, such as Japan and South Korea, who fear that these stocks may be used elsewhere and not be replenished,» said Sauve.

« It can take up to 12 to 18 months to fill certain interceptors and some technologically advanced missiles,» he added.

Furthermore, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz greatly affects the economy of many of the United States’ allies who heavily depend on Iranian oil.

« All of Europe, Japan, South Korea, all allies want to see the problem resolved because the effects will be felt in the long term. The war has been going on for 60 days, there is no end in sight. We really want it to be resolved so that the economy can return to normal,» says Eric Sauve.
