For this historic state visit, a specific protocol is in place at the White House, according to employees in the documentary “The Palace and the Presidents,” cited by The Mirror on Saturday, April 25th. Donald Trump will have to adhere to a number of rules. Capricia Marshall, the former Chief of Protocol of the United States from 2009 to 2013, recalled that before the meeting between Elizabeth II and Barack Obama, a consultation took place regarding the “greetings and references” because “the presidents of the United States do not bow to any other leader.”
In addition, the planned outfits for the day were also very regulated, to avoid a “clash of colors or patterns.” As for the food, the former royal family chef, Visen Anenden, explained that all menus were carefully planned to respect “all dietary requirements” of the guests. Garlic and onions are notably “completely prohibited” because the family “does not want the odor and fragrance they emit.” Finally, the President of the United States will have to provide a substantial gift for King Charles III and his wife.
