Dua Lipa Donates to Help Ukraine’s First Medical Battalion
On all fronts, really all of them. Particularly sensitive to the humanitarian cause due to her family’s history connected to the Balkan War, British singer Dua Lipa, who recently took on the Albanian and Kosovar nationalities of her parents, has made a financial contribution to aid Ukraine, which has been in conflict with Russia for over four years now. According to the Kyiv Post, the 30-year-old pop star donated generously to help purchase a pick-up truck for the first Ukrainian medical battalion, which has already been delivered.
“We received the vehicle from the Driving Ukraine organization, thanks to funds raised with the help of Dua Lipa and her organization,” stated Volodymyr Koval, the communication head of the battalion to a Ukrainian media outlet, referring to the singer’s Service95 organization. The name of this organization, partly derived from the artist’s birth year, supports various humanitarian and social projects.
“The likelihood that Dua Lipa would assist us in providing a vehicle to our unit may not have been high, but it was never zero. We are grateful to her, Service95, and the Driving Ukraine initiative [a British charity specializing in converting decommissioned vehicles into ambulances for frontline use] for this powerful pick-up for the independent first medical battalion,” expressed a source cited by United24. “It will enable us to carry out rescue missions effectively in combat zones,” they added.
This contribution was confirmed by Ukrainian lawmaker Roman Hryshchuk on Threads, as reported by the media. “As far as I know, the vehicle was delivered to Ukraine as part of a humanitarian convoy that also included the singer’s mother,” clarified Volodymyr Koval.
In March, Service95 hosted a charitable event in London to raise these funds. All proceeds from the evening were donated to Driving Ukraine, which has already provided over 300 vehicles to Kiev since the Russian invasion in 2022. Other celebrities from the cultural world, like Sean Penn and Angelina Jolie, have visited recently to show their support for the homeland of Volodymyr Zelensky.
