On Friday, April 24th at 8:00 pm, the Lions Club Vesoul Edwige-Feuillère invites the public to go beyond just watching, immersing, and enjoying landscapes while experts raise awareness. They also encourage questioning and reflection. After screening their film, the club will host the director of “Because I Am the River,” along with Patrice Malavaux and Gérard Mamet, river experts and members of SOS Loue and rivières comtoises (SOS-LRC), at the Majestic cinema in Vesoul.

This special evening is part of the Lions Club International’s Global Week of Service dedicated to the environment, which runs until April 26th. Yvette Goux, who leads the club’s service committee, stated, “We wanted to participate in this week through this documentary and the guests.”

In Haute-Saône, locals are familiar with the Loue, a former fly fishing paradise now suffering from pollution. Sylvie Väng Jacquemin, the director, filmed in Ornans at the pow-wow festival “Dance with the Loue,” organized by the association 4-Winds since 2008. The documentary showcases the perspectives of both local and international individuals on our relationship with water and the challenges related to river quality, featuring Native Americans, fishermen, and defenders of Comtois rivers. A debate will follow the screening.

Additionally, the Lions Club International partnered with the national collective Génération mer in 2024, comprising 14 multidisciplinary founding organizations since 2017. Even though the sea is far from Franche-Comté, its protection starts with rivers and various pollutants, according to SOS Loue et rivières comtoises. The Lions Club Vesoul Edwige-Feuillère is involved in this project through initiatives supporting water protection, including a literature contest titled “Blue Stars/Generation Sea,” launching in Vesoul.

The event will take place on Friday, April 24th at 8:00 pm at the Majestic cinema in Vesoul, with a selection of water-related books available for purchase on-site.
