A few hours before the return of the MotoGP in Spain, we invite you to discover our exclusive interview with Johann Zarco. We wanted to hear his thoughts after the first three Grand Prix races. Also, his reflections on his current feelings and personal ambitions in the coming months.
Among the topics we wished to discuss with JZ5, in addition to his start to the season, we wanted to know his thoughts on a hypothetical second victory for Honda/LCR in France. Another more thorny subject, the development of the Honda and how different riding styles may potentially advantage certain riders over others.
Finally, we asked Johann about the new regulations set to be introduced in 2027. Specifically, how these new rules could potentially benefit him.
The MotorGP: Johann Zarco, Honda, LCR, and the future regulations
In our conversation with Johann, he shared his perspective on his performance in the first three races. He aimed to break into the top 5, which he believes is possible with the evolution of the motorcycle over the winter. Despite struggling to crack the top ten in the initial races, he remains optimistic about the potential of the bike and his ability to exploit its full potential.
Regarding the Honda 2026 model, Johann acknowledged that he was not handling the bike as well as he did the previous year. He noted improvements in acceleration and braking but felt a slight decrease in maneuverability in fast corners. He expressed his determination to work on developing his technique to make the most of the bike’s progress and manage corners more effectively.
When asked about Honda’s development work favoring official riders with different styles, Johann emphasized that as the bike evolves, it benefits everyone. While adjustments may vary based on individual styles, overall improvements in performance can lead to better results for all riders.
Looking ahead to the future and the 2027 MotoGP season, Johann discussed the potential advantages of less power in the bikes. He believes this change could help him regain speed through corners and leverage his strengths in braking. Remaining with the same team, he sees his experience and motivation as assets that could provide opportunities in the upcoming season.
Johann Zarco expressed optimism and a strong desire to achieve victory again, particularly at the prestigious Le Mans circuit. He believes in dreaming big and aiming for success, even in the face of challenges. With a positive outlook and a focus on maximizing opportunities, Johann Zarco is poised for an exciting MotoGP season ahead.
Thank you to Johann Zarco for his time and insights shared in this interview for Le Mag Sport Auto.
