A few cables away from the end of the regional championships, the fate of our Lot-et-Garonne clubs is becoming clearer: some have almost secured their maintenance, others have almost confirmed their relegation, while the rest will have to fight until the end. An overview…
Three points better
The SUA is experiencing a resurgence of form at just the right time. After their victory against Doazit in the previous match, the Carmaux-Tahraoui duo’s men did it again against Bazas (Regional 2, 2-0): “The result is great,” analyzes Damien Carmaux. “We win 2-0, we don’t concede, we take three points… From an accounting point of view, it’s perfect. If we see the glass as half empty, we are safe; if we see it as half full, we are fourth in the standings.” Three points better also for ASSA Pays du Dropt, who got a precious victory on Médoc Océan’s field (Regional 3, 0-1), even if this win didn’t bring excessive joy to coach Thomas Hurtel: “It wasn’t pretty in terms of performance, but the win is there. Sometimes, you don’t have to be beautiful, but leave with the three points.”
The match against Marsan will be crucial to continue hoping for maintenance.
A draw for lack of better
In another time, getting a draw in Villenave-d’Ornon would have been hailed as a great achievement. But that time no longer exists, and the Girondin club is no longer the strong team it used to be, which doesn’t prevent Armand Essomba, coach of FCM, from considering that the point taken by FCM (Regional 1, 1-1) is a good point: “In terms of standings, it’s a good point away against a direct competitor.”
FCM still holds their destiny in their own hands.
Tears in eyes
This is certainly the case for the players of EBBE who, despite a strong match, couldn’t find the way to the net against Stade Bordelais’s reserve team and were beaten at home (Regional 1, 0-2). “I am very proud of the players, who played equally with the Bordelais,” declares Alexis Jourdan, the manager of the team. “We are in a dark year, where we are not successful.” A big disappointment for Casseneuil as well, narrowly defeated at home by Rive Droite 33 FC (Regional 3, 0-1), after pushing the pool leader to the limit. Nicolas Dumas’ disappointment is evident: “The opponent capitalized on an oversight from our side. It’s a shame, as the draw wouldn’t have been stolen.” Bitter tears also for Smati Khenakas and Le Mas, who were soundly beaten by US Marsan (Regional 3, 3-0): “It’s a very bitter feeling, because, despite a first half where we deserved to be ahead, we completely collapsed in the end. The negative streak continues. It’s up to us to do what’s necessary to avoid spoiling the beautiful season achieved so far.” As for the fate of Confluent Foot, also beaten at home by Lormont (2) (Regional 3, 2-4), it is almost sealed: “There’s no secret afterwards. If we don’t train, we can’t play. I have a group that just plays. I have no one at training,” concludes Abdelah Bendaho, the coach of CF47. So, “after,” it will be a return to the departmental level after nine seasons at the regional level.
Women’s (R2): the girls are on top!
The Garo Foot Girls confirm their good form of the moment, with four consecutive matches without defeat (three wins and a draw), including a victory against Biarritz (R2, 2-3). In the standings, they are now in 4th place. “It was an intense, very heated match, but ultimately well executed by the girls. The team is in great spirits,” says Alex Lorente, club manager.
And good news never comes alone, as this victory of the girls is also accompanied by Maxime Pénôt, Garo Foot’s coach, obtaining the Federal Senior Coach Diploma. At the top, we tell you.
