During the last summer transfer window, OM had a goal: to strengthen their defense. The Marseille club parted ways with players like Quentin Merlin, Chancel Mbemba, Luiz Felipe, and Derek Cornelius. Following these departures, many new signings were made, including Nayef Aguerd, Benjamin Pavard, Facundo Medina, CJ Egan-Riley, Emerson, and Timothy Weah.
A defense in great difficulty
There were high hopes for OM’s defensive changes. After a disastrous defensive season, the club hoped to improve in this area. However, this has not been the case. Despite the numerous defensive signings, OM still struggles defensively this season. Many more departures are expected in the south of France, and the new management will have to rebuild the team.
OM wants to build around a few players
Several defenders are rumored to be leaving, including Leonardo Balerdi and Benjamin Pavard, who is likely to move to Inter Milan. CJ Egan-Riley, acquired last summer, is also not in OM’s plans and may depart. OM is looking to rebuild its defense around Facundo Medina, Nayef Aguerd, Emerson, and Timothy Weah.
